Working between sculptures and installations

Nyakinyua is a sculptural artist who primarily works in ceramics. Born in Kenya & based in Iceland. Completed her Diploma in ceramics at Reykjavik School of Visual Arts. She has shown her work in Design March and  Gallery Fold in Reykjavik. Her work is a connection between culture, identity and fashion formations. Drawing inspiration from the patterns of African hair styles and fluidity of clothings and beadings . She uses both traditional coiling, hand building & slip casting techniques . Creating pieces that are thought provoking is fascinating to her. Through her work, she aims to bridge the past and present & both the cultures. Much like water, she finds herself fluid and adaptable. The imperfections make it better to go with the flow.
